Community Project: Triggers in Music
|
Hello everyone! Vinyl here, and I started a new project onsite last night. As some of you may know, I’ve struggled with mental illness over the past few years, thanks to the great anxiety + depression duo and PTSD. I’ve, thankfully, been able to heal over time, but it’s not always so easy, and it’s common to have a string of bad days where things that remind me of my past will make me panic. I know I’m not alone in this, and I wanted to find a way to help others dealing with similar things.
Last night, I was browsing the site DoesTheDogDie, which is known for cataloguing triggering content in movies. However, I learned last night that it covers other areas, like TV shows and video games, but not music. That’s where my new Triggers in Music project comes into play.
With help from wonderful users like @averysperez, @glitzy, @tirelessmess, @AlexanderJamesM, @miasmxle, @AGS96, @ChloeConlon, and @velociraptigor, we now have pages dedicated to logging the presence of thirteen common triggers in music.

Logic is Overrated (Shawn Cee & BlackySpeakz response)
|
S/o @RapGeniusRapGenius for making ‘The Problem With Logic’ thread that inspired this. I was bored and what’s better than critiquing Logic
1: Overrated Lyrically
Everyone praises Logic for being a top tier lyrical rapper but I don’t see it. I was guilty of it when I was in 8th and 9th grade and he dropped Under Pressure (Still a great album) & The Incredible True Story (In retrospect that album title’s dumb and the concept wasn’t worked out on fully imo) but looking back on it he really isn’t that impressive. His lines are ight but there’s no complexity within his rhymes. I feel as if because of lyrics becoming less important in this generation that most rap fans that don’t like the new trend of trap will favor rappers with average bars just because they “can understand what they’re saying”.
Example 1: Young Jesus
Now I ain’t gonna lie, it knocks. The beat knocks and the verses were dope but let’s look at the 15 bars Logic spit on the 1st verse
Okay now take a trip inside my m
